Undiscovered Radio Network, Inc. is a company specializing in programming featuring independent music.  The company began in August 2006 and launched the first program ‘Undiscovered’ in September of that year.  ‘Undiscovered’ is a 2 hour weekly alt/rock format show that showcases the best independent and unsigned artists from across the globe.  The company’s long term goal is to create music programs featuring independent musicians across all music formats.

The mission of URN is change broadcast radio so that young audiences will continue to tune in.  Additionally, URN’s focus is to create programs that allow access for independent and unsigned bands to broadcast radio stations.  URN values people and their independent expressions and so by working exclusively with the independent industry, we hope to create a positive change in the sound of radio and the listening habits of younger generations.

URN’s focus to create change for broadcast radio means that we syndicate our programs on the AM/FM dial only.  We are not internet, podcast or any other form of programming – we are broadcast specific.  We believe that our focus will be a key to our success.  Success to URN is defined by the growth of listeners tuning in to hear our shows and the radio station’s embrace of our programs. 

The development of independent music based programs is a unique position.  No other syndicator focuses solely on TRULY independent music.  Independent is defined by URN as ‘any artist or bands that creates their music and produces their Cd’s on their own, without any affiliation to a major record label or their subsidiaries’.  That’s a whole lotta music!  We actively request bands to be part of our programs and we also take open submissions. Bands can submit a variety of ways – Snail mail, Sonicbids, Etc.  URN tries to make policies that are beneficial to bands while adhering to regulatory policies of the broadcasting industry.  We make sure that the music is of the highest quality possible and that bands are registered with a performing rights organization.  URN takes the workload off stations and provides band with airplay. 

The sounds of URN programs all have certain key elements…we first and foremost do not play any music for any other reason other than the sound is good.  Bands get airplay no matter their size or status, the sound is what makes them relevant.  All our programs feature the full spectrum of a particular format (within reason).  The ‘Undiscovered’ alt/rock show plays sounds from psychedelic to emo to active rock to prog rock all seamlessly put together in 2 hours of listening bliss!  All shows are upbeat and feature information about the bands.  The URN website is designed to take our on-air programs one step further, providing listeners with links to bands websites, videos of bands and concerts, and exclusive interviews with bands featured in the shows.
