 - The Rosewood Thieves -
This Brooklyn band found the perfect amount of retro tones to incorporate into their sound, which is anything but old, and made a great first full-length record in Rise & Shine. It sounds so familiar and free-spirited, and yet at the same time, fresh and exciting. It's easy to waste hours and hours listening to this album - trust me!ProgramRecap.html
- These United States -
I hate these types of comparison descriptions, but I don't know how else to more clearly articulate how interesting this band is: The Pixies, Norah Jones, and a percussionist from a symphony orchestra who's tripping. Most of the music is too thoughtfully moody to work on Undiscovered, but that doesn't mean the music isn't great - because it is. This D.C. band is a new favorite from the moment I pushed play - check them out! (video is old and of poor quality so don't let it sway your opinion and my comments)ProgramRecap.html
- Youthmovies -
More progressive rock, but this time coming from the UK. But unlike 3 listed above, these proggers have a totally different vibe on their Good Nature EP. If their were a such category of Indie Prog, this would be it. They keep an element of trend and fun in their music, largely accomplished with a reoccurring horn section. But it's no big band, it's still guitar-heavy, time-shifting, syncopated rock. Good stuff!!ProgramRecap.html
- Divide The Day -
Deadly Like The Snake is an EP that I believe was designed to be ingested along with lots of crank and beer. It just wouldn't feel right if you didn't include those items while rocking out to this southern-fused ballsy rock. Of course we're not advocating alcohol or drugs, but listen and tell me I'm wrong. Oh yeah, and if you aren't ready to get amped up and start a two-day riot, you might also want to hold off until you have time for that, in addition to the crank and beer. This record works better than a Rock Star®.ProgramRecap.html
- 3 -
Hooray for kick-ass progressive rock!!! This music is almost always butchered by the bands that are attempting to make a crack at it, but this is not the case for 3 - it's awesome! Interesting musicianship is all over the place, and yet it doesn't sound cluttered and messy like is usually the case in the failed attempts I mentioned. The End Is Begun is now one of my favorite records!ProgramRecap.html
